Plants require 16 essential elements for their growth and development. Except C, H and O, all other nutrient are supplied through fertilizers and manure if they are not present in the soil.
Organic Manure are the organic wastes of plants and animals which are used as nutrient source by plants. Generally they are heavier in weight and less proportion of essential nutrient contained per kg. But organic manure contain all essential nutrient required for plants. So for proper growth of plants we should apply organic manure in large scale. They undergo slow minerilization so they constantly supply nutrient requirement and there is less chance of nutrient leaching. Examples are Chicken Manure, Compost Manure, Vermicompost, FYM,etc.
Fertilizer are generally synthesized organic or inorganic compound which provide only specific nutrient for plants. They contain high percent of specific nutrients so generally they are applied in little amount. They can quickly undergo minerilaization so it can quickly compensate the nutrient deficiency of plant but to fulfill its nutrient requirement generally each fertilizer should be added. Fertilizer destroy the soil structure, increase acidity and kill soil microganisms on long term use.
In our ‘Tokinashi’radish field we have done experiment in chicken manure and fertilizer. Firstly, we have done soil test using ‘Kitt Box Method’ in which we have found Nitogen and Phosphorus normal and High Potassium. We have added 25kg chicken manure in 16 metre square plot. Subsquently we have added 0.5 Kg Urea, 625 gm DAP in 16 metre square plot (Reference – ‘Krishi Diary’ - Dose for Tokinashi’) and 2.9 kg lime per 16 metre square plot. (Sandy Loam soil, Lime Requirement for pH-5 to 6.5 is 91 Kg per Ropani).
Radish Foliage in Chicken Manure Applied Field |
Alternaria Disease in Chemical Fertilizer Applied Field |
But in the plot in which we have added fertilizer is heavily suffered from ‘Alternaria’ Fungi. We have twice Foliar applied micronutrient (Phytoplex) and Mancozeb (70% w/w). Even we could not control Alternaria Fungi of Radish. There is not well growth of radish and almost foliage seen dull and pale green. We have spent only Rs. 100 per plot for chicken radish but for fertilizer applied field, Ferilizer Cost- Rs. 40, Mancozeb cost – Rs. 60, micronutrient cost - Rs.–40. In total our cost is Rs. 140 and more labor is require for spray but our fertilizer applied field is heavily infested by Alternaria Fungi and stunted radish growth.
Hence, we have seen that initial cost for organic manure is high but calculating the cost upto harvest time, it is profitable. Only fertilizer applied field is totally destroyed. For commercial agriculture only organic manure is not possible so we can sugest fertilizer cum manure for commercial agriculture for optimum profit from farm.
